Students recently took part in an engaging and insightful masterclass led by Dr Natalie from Biograd, offering a valuable introduction to the world of life sciences and medicine. The session was designed to broaden students’ understanding of the diverse pathways available within science and healthcare, and how these subjects can lead to a wide range of exciting and rewarding careers.
Dr Natalie provided a fascinating overview of current research taking place at Biograd, helping students see how scientific study is applied in real-world, professional research environments. This connection between classroom learning and cutting-edge science brought the subject to life, highlighting the important role scientific discovery plays in advancing modern medicine.
A particular highlight of the session was the introduction of the Fundraiser Ambassador role. Students recognised this as a meaningful opportunity to develop key skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork, while also strengthening their personal statements and wider university applications.
Dr Natalie also shared insights into her own career journey, which resonated strongly with students. Her experiences encouraged Year 11 learners to reflect on whether A Level science is the right pathway for them, while also reinforcing the idea that there are multiple routes into science and healthcare careers.
Throughout the masterclass, students explored the value of work experience and hands-on, lab-based learning. They also took part in practical demonstrations, gaining insight into areas such as cardiac assessment and patient observation techniques. These activities helped students deepen their understanding of the skills and attributes required within medical and life science professions.
At ÌÇÐÄVlog, students aspiring to study medicine are supported through a structured progression pathway designed to help them build both the academic profile and practical experience required for competitive university applications. This includes specialist guidance on subject choices, preparation for entrance exams such as the UCAT, support with medical work experience placements, and interview practice including Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs).
A key part of this support is personalised guidance from the school’s Head of English and Higher Education Counsellor, who works closely with students throughout their journey. From initial exploration of career options through to UCAS applications and interview preparation, students receive tailored advice and structured one-to-one support to help them present the strongest possible applications.
Alongside academic preparation, Guildhouse places a strong emphasis on super-curricular enrichment, encouraging students to engage in lectures, workshops, volunteering, and subject-specific activities that deepen their understanding of medicine and healthcare.
With expert mentoring and a highly personalised approach to progression, ÌÇÐÄVlog ensures students are confident, informed, and well-prepared as they take their next steps towards university and future careers in medicine and related fields.
Overall, the session provided inspiration, clarity, and practical guidance, supporting students as they begin to consider their future subject choices and explore potential pathways in science and medicine.
