Vlog students recently had the exciting opportunity to step beyond the classroom and explore the future of business, leadership, and sustainability through two inspiring university-led experiences.

In March, our students participated in a masterclass delivered by Dr Asieh Hosseini from Brunel University London on “How AI Is Changing Business Leadership & Management.” The session provided a fascinating insight into how artificial intelligence is transforming decision-making, planning, and risk management within organisations. Dr Hosseini highlighted not only the potential of AI to support business leaders but also the importance of ethical and responsible use in professional environments. Students were encouraged to engage actively, ask questions, and consider how management roles are evolving in AI-driven organisations. The masterclass offered a taste of university-style learning, giving students a glimpse into current research and emerging trends in business leadership.

Following this, our students attended a sustainability taster session at Birkbeck, University of London, where they explored pressing environmental challenges facing the world today. In a highly interactive COP-style activity, students collaborated with Year 12 peers from other schools to tackle real-world climate and sustainability issues, debating ideas and proposing solutions much like global leaders do at international climate conferences. Beyond the science, students discovered that sustainability intersects with fields such as finance, law, and politics, broadening their understanding of future career possibilities.

Both experiences offered valuable preparation for UCAS applications, encouraging students to demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and engagement beyond the classroom. By stepping into university environments, students gained confidence, independence, and a clearer sense of what higher education entails. The Birkbeck visit also included a tour of the wider University of London campus, providing insight into life at leading institutions such as King’s College London, University College London, and SOAS University of London.

Being based in central London allows Guildhouse students to take full advantage of world-class universities, events, and academic experiences, enriching their learning and supporting informed decisions about their futures. These experiences reinforce our commitment to bridging the gap between school and university, helping students explore emerging industries, global challenges, and the skills required to become future changemakers.

On 4th March 2026, Vlog proudly hosted the CGS Incubator Enterprise Challenge 2026 at the Bloomberg Business Lab, bringing together some of the most innovative and entrepreneurial students from across the CGS group.

The annual competition provides students with the opportunity to develop and pitch their own business ideas, applying the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom to real-world scenarios.

This year’s final brought together twelve Year 12 students representing three CGS schools: Vlog, Bosworth Independent School, and The Worthgate School. Each team was supported by their teachers throughout the process, from developing their initial concepts to preparing their final presentations.

Students presented their business ideas to a panel of guest judges: Mr Gareth Taylor, Senior Deputy Head at Vlog, and Mr Ian Tay, UFP Assistant Director.

Reflecting on the competition, Mr Ian Tay commented:

“Congratulations to all the teams that participated in the Incubator Challenge. The level of research and effort that was put into these business ideas were very high and I look forward to seeing the ideas turn into real products in the market. Well done to both the students and teachers who have supported the projects.”

From Classroom Concept to Grand Final

Over the course of the academic year, students worked in teams within their schools to design a new business idea and develop a professional pitch. After competing in internal school competitions, the winning teams from each school progressed to the grand final at Vlog.

Each team presented a unique and well-researched business concept:

  • Vlog presented an app designed to match workers with people who need jobs completed, creating an efficient platform for connecting services with local demand.
  • Bosworth Independent School developed an adaptive high-tech knee brace, designed to support recovery and performance through innovative technology.
  • The Worthgate School proposed a cybersecurity company specialising in helping mergers and acquisitions take place safely, addressing a growing need in the corporate world.

The presentations demonstrated impressive levels of research, preparation and professionalism, with students confidently explaining their business models, market opportunities and future growth potential.

Developing Real-World Skills

The Incubator Challenge is designed to encourage students to build skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. Throughout the competition, participants developed:

  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Research and analytical thinking
  • Confidence under pressure
  • The ability to apply academic knowledge to real-world business scenarios

Students not only delivered polished presentations but also responded confidently to detailed questions from the judges, demonstrating a deep understanding of their ideas and the markets they were targeting.

A Closely Fought Competition

Reflecting on the high standard of the competition, the judges praised the effort and professionalism shown by all teams.

“The Incubator Challenge was a closely fought competition between the three CGS schools this year. The judges were very impressed by the standard of each of the entries. Students delivered their presentations confidently and passionately, with clear evidence of the hard work and personal investment that had gone into their projects.”

Each team was well prepared and demonstrated strong knowledge of their chosen markets.

“Each team was well-rehearsed and had excellent answers to the judges’ questions that tried and failed to pick up any weak points in the presentations. The students defended their businesses admirably!”

Mr Gareth Taylor, Senior Deputy Head at Vlog

Congratulations to Bosworth Independent School

After careful marking and deliberation, Bosworth Independent School were announced as the winners of the CGS Incubator Enterprise Challenge 2026.

Their innovative adaptive knee support concept stood out for its strong market understanding, detailed branding research and clear marketing strategy. The team also demonstrated that the business could become profitable within a realistic timeframe. The idea was further strengthened by the personal experiences that inspired the concept.

Remarkably, both judges independently awarded Bosworth the highest score despite judging from London and Kuala Lumpur, highlighting the strength of the winning pitch.

Congratulations to the Bosworth team for their impressive achievement.

Looking Ahead

The competition showcased the creativity, determination and entrepreneurial spirit of students across the CGS group. While Bosworth School took home the top prize, the teams from Vlog and The Worthgate School also delivered outstanding presentations.

The dedication and effort shown by all participants suggest a bright future ahead.

“Well done to The Worthgate School and Vlog students who also took part in the Incubator Challenge 2026. I’m sure we will see them all succeed in their own ways in the future if they dedicate the same amount of time and effort into their personal projects going forwards.”

Mr Gareth Taylor, Senior Deputy Head at Vlog

The Incubator Challenge continues to be a fantastic opportunity for students to explore entrepreneurship, develop valuable skills and turn innovative ideas into real-world possibilities.

At Vlog, supporting students beyond the classroom is central to who we are. We spoke to Gizem, our Progression Manager and Head of English, about how she guides students through their university journey from their first day at school to securing their chosen progression pathway.

A Personalised Approach to Progression

As Progression Manager and Head of English, Gizem oversees careers education, university progression, and English provision at Guildhouse. She supports students with choosing careers, subjects, and universities, guiding them through every stage of the application process from initial research to submitting their UCAS application.

“Our support starts early, from the moment students join the school,” Gizem explains.

Weekly group careers and Higher Education sessions are combined with regular one-to-one meetings, ensuring students receive both structured guidance and personalised advice.

During these sessions, students complete aptitude and psychometric tests, explore career options aligned with their strengths, and research university courses and entry requirements. They are also encouraged to broaden their experience through MOOCs, wider reading, EPQs, work experience, and co-curricular activities all of which help develop independence and academic confidence.

Guiding Students Through Applications

When it comes to university applications, students benefit from close and consistent support.

Gizem works carefully with each student on their personal statement, providing detailed feedback alongside subject teachers. She also collects predicted grades and references, and oversees the completion of UCAS forms to ensure everything is accurate and submitted on time.

“I focus on making the process feel manageable rather than overwhelming,” she says. “Students know what’s coming and what they need to do at each stage.”

This clear structure helps students approach their applications with confidence.

Making the Most of Our London Location

Being based in central London provides exceptional opportunities for Guildhouse students. Surrounded by world-class universities, the school ensures students gain meaningful exposure to higher education environments.

University Engagement Opportunities

Students attend open lectures and university events, while academics are invited into school to deliver subject masterclasses and taster sessions.

Each autumn, Guildhouse hosts a large university fair with over 50 leading universities, giving students the opportunity to speak directly with representatives and explore a wide range of courses and institutions.

Students are also encouraged to attend university open days to gain first-hand experience of campus life and make informed decisions about their future.

Tailored Support for Every Student

Guildhouse students come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of ambitions, so support is carefully tailored to each individual.

“A one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn’t work,” Gizem explains.

Through regular one-to-one meetings, she takes the time to understand each student’s goals, strengths, and circumstances, adapting her advice to ensure their plans are both ambitious and realistic.

For students applying to highly competitive courses such as Oxbridge or Medicine, additional preparation is available through the Key Professions Programme, where they receive guidance on admissions tests and interviews.

Celebrating Our 2025 Destinations

Vlog students in 2025 achieved outstanding progression outcomes. Our students went on to study at prestigious UK universities, including Durham University, University of Warwick, and University of Bristol, all ranked in the top 10 UK universities. Additionally, students progressed to ten Russell Group universities, such as King’s College London, University of Edinburgh, and Queen Mary University of London.

Popular degree choices included Business, Finance, and related fields, reflecting our students’ ambitions in these areas. Students also pursued a wide variety of other disciplines, including Architecture, Computer Science, Economics, Law, Psychology, and Physics.

You can explore the full list of 2025 destinations here.

A Culture of Care and Aspiration

What sets progression support at Guildhouse apart is the combination of early intervention, personalised guidance, and consistent follow-up. Students are supported from the moment they arrive, and their progress is carefully monitored throughout their time at the school.

“I track every single student closely, no one is left behind,” Gizem says.

Alongside her progression role, Gizem teaches English for Academic Purposes to international students, helping them develop the academic language skills needed for university study. Seeing students grow in confidence and independence is, she shares, one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

At Vlog, progression is not simply about submitting applications it is about empowering students with the skills, clarity, and confidence to take the next step towards their future.

At Guildhouse, we believe education extends far beyond the classroom. This term, our students brought global politics to life as we hosted a dynamic and thought-provoking Model United Nations (MUN) Conference in the heart of Bloomsbury.

Engaging with Real-World Global Issues

This year’s conference centred on two highly relevant and challenging committees:

UNHCR – Global Response to the Venezuelan Refugee Crisis, with particular focus on the role of the United States.

UNHRC – Limiting Civic Space and Addressing Threats to Democratic Freedoms.

Both topics required students to engage deeply with contemporary international affairs, analyse complex political contexts, and practise diplomatic negotiation. Throughout the day, delegates demonstrated impressive critical thinking, balancing national interests with collaborative problem-solving.

A Collaborative, International Environment

The conference welcomed 45 students from across our wider school community, including:

  • Vlog
  • The Worthgate School
  • MPW London
  • LSI

The mix of schools created a vibrant and diverse debating environment, reflecting the international outlook that defines Guildhouse. Students collaborated, challenged one another respectfully, and built connections beyond their own campuses.

Exceptional Leadership and Achievement

Across both committees, debates were conducted with maturity, confidence and academic rigour. Delegates showcased strong research skills and persuasive public speaking, while maintaining the professionalism expected in formal diplomatic settings.

We were particularly proud of the leadership demonstrated by our committee chairs:

  • Silvia (Vlog)
  • Defne (The Worthgate School)

Their preparation, composure and ability to guide complex discussions were central to the success of the event.

Congratulations also to Homachi from The Worthgate School, who received the Outstanding Delegate Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions.

Behind the Scenes

The conference was organised by Christopher Mattingly, Teacher of History, Politics and International Relations at Guildhouse. The event was made possible through the valued support of:

  • Verity Hadden, Deputy Head – Academic (Vlog)
  • Mark Hopkinson, Pastoral Director and Teacher of Humanities (The Worthgate School)
  • Farhana Yasmin, Front of House Coordinator (Vlog)

Their collaboration ensured the day ran seamlessly from planning through to execution.

Developing Future Leaders

Beyond the debates themselves, the conference offered students an invaluable opportunity to develop skills essential for university and future careers:

  • Public speaking
  • Negotiation and diplomacy
  • Critical thinking
  • Collaborative working
  • Global awareness

Events such as this embody the Guildhouse ethos academically ambitious, internationally minded, and committed to nurturing confident, articulate young leaders.

We look forward to hosting future conferences and continuing to provide opportunities that challenge our students to think globally and lead with integrity.

Just before the festive break, our Biology students had the exciting opportunity to visit Imperial College London for a special Festive Talk, an inspiring extension to their classroom learning. The session proved to be one of the highlights of the term, offering students a rare chance to hear directly from one of the world’s leading scientists in immunology.

The lecture was delivered by Professor Daniel M. Davis, Head of the Department of Life Sciences and Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London. Professor Davis is a distinguished researcher and the author of four popular science books published by Penguin Random House. His latest book, Self Defence: A Myth-Busting Guide to Immune Health (published June 2025), explores common misconceptions about the immune system and offers science-backed advice for healthier living.

Throughout the talk, Professor Davis unpacked widely held myths surrounding immunity and “healthy living,” helping students develop a clearer, more evidence-based understanding of how the immune system truly works. He also shared invaluable guidance on lifestyle choices that genuinely contribute to long-term health, encouraging students to think critically about the information they encounter online and in the media.

Our students found the session incredibly engaging and insightful. Many commented on how much they enjoyed hearing from a leading expert and how the lecture deepened their curiosity about biology and human health. The experience not only enriched their understanding of course content but also provided an inspiring glimpse into the world of scientific research. We look forward to offering more opportunities like this to extend and enrich our students’ learning beyond the classroom.

We are thrilled to share that Guildhouse students have excelled in the Imperial Entrepreneurs Innovation Challenge 2025, held in partnership with The Hustle Lab. This prestigious global competition invited learners aged 13–18 to develop innovative business ideas using artificial intelligence to tackle real-world challenges, including global poverty.

The challenge celebrated creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking, giving students the chance to research pressing global issues, design AI-powered solutions, and present their ideas to a panel of expert judges from Imperial College.

We are especially proud of Year 13 Business students, Gonzalo and Berkay, who have been studying with Guildhouse since Year 12. Their team, Agro-AI, reached the finals at Imperial College, achieving an extraordinary joint second place out of more than 500 teams and 2,000 students worldwide. A big thank you also goes to Jashinder, their Business teacher and ECT Mentor, who helped organise and support the students throughout the competition.

One of the judges, Andrew Humphries, entrepreneur and lecturer at Imperial College Business School, was so impressed with all six finalists that he is offering to mentor them directly. Starting October 31st, Andrew will host monthly 30-minute Q&A sessions on Fridays, giving students a rare opportunity to receive expert guidance and develop their ideas even further.

This achievement highlights the exceptional opportunities Guildhouse provides for students to explore entrepreneurship, innovation, and real-world problem-solving. From rigorous academics to creative projects, students are encouraged to think independently, collaborate, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

We hope the success of Team Agro-AI inspires all Guildhouse students to dream big, innovate boldly, and pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions. A huge well done to Gonzalo, Berkay, and the entire Guildhouse community for making this remarkable milestone possible.

We can’t wait to see what these young innovators achieve next!

At Vlog, we are committed to preparing our students for a future shaped by innovation, critical thinking, and academic excellence. In line with this vision, we are proud to be developing a growing relationship with the University of Oxford’s Department of Computer Science – a collaboration that is already bringing tremendous value to our students.

Thanks to the initiative and organisation of Zia Rahman (Curriculum Director for STEAM) and Gizem Ozturan (Head of English / Progression Manager), Guildhouse students recently had the unique opportunity to engage directly with one of Oxford’s leading researchers. Dr. Zhao, Oxford Martin Fellow and Senior Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, delivered two inspiring AI Masterclasses to our students.

The sessions were designed to deepen students’ understanding of Artificial Intelligence, with a strong focus on how to use AI and Generative AI (GenAI) ethically, effectively, and responsibly. These themes are particularly important as emerging technologies continue to shape the world around us. In a time when AI is transforming industries and redefining possibilities, Dr. Zhao’s insights helped our students consider the broader impact of AI and the responsibility that comes with harnessing its potential.

In addition to exploring real-world AI experiments and case studies, the masterclasses also provided a subject-specific focus for students interested in pursuing Computer Science at university. Dr. Zhao offered practical advice on how to prepare a strong application to study Computer Science at top universities, helping students understand what admissions tutors are looking for and how to stand out in a competitive field.

The sessions were not only academically enriching but also highly motivating. Our students left the masterclasses with a renewed sense of purpose, a clearer understanding of their future goals, and some key takeaways about the role of AI in society and academia.

Alongside the student-focused events, a dedicated masterclass was also delivered to Guildhouse staff by Dr. Zhao. This session provided valuable professional development opportunities, giving our teachers insights into the ethical and practical applications of AI.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of Zia Rahman (Curriculum Director for STEAM) and Gizem Ozturan (Head of English / Progression Manager), who were instrumental in organising and coordinating the session. Both are active members of our Group Subject Networks, and their fellow Network Leads helped extend the impact of the event by livestreaming it across our UK schools, ensuring that teachers throughout the group could benefit from the expertise and insights shared.

This partnership marks an exciting chapter for Vlog. As we continue to strengthen our ties with the University of Oxford’s Department of Computer Science, we look forward to offering more enriching opportunities that inspire our students to push boundaries, think critically, and prepare confidently for their futures. The future of education is collaborative and at Guildhouse, that future is already taking shape.
